The book was released in Hebrew in Israel, translated into Russian, also into English in USA. Latvians are very interested in this book, espeacially in the context of tragic events happened in Daugavpils Ghetto; Germans are interested, too. Therefore, this book is very important for us, Lithuanians, in order to know the memories and history of a person who was born and has spent his youth in Utena.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2115\" src=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/1-213x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"213\" height=\"300\" data-id=\"2115\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/1-213x300.jpg 213w, https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/1.jpg 526w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 213px) 100vw, 213px\" \/><\/a>The news about the start of the war reached Kuritsky in his hometown Utena. Unexpected actions of German army forced a sudden adjustment to new life changes. The route Kaunas-Daugavpils was full of vehicles, Russian tanks, hundreds of retreating people, the majority of whom were Jews, to Russia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the third day of the war the time was counted not by hours, but by minutes. Chaim Kuritsky travelled with his sisters and mother. They succeeded to get the place in the train going to Riga. Germans stopped the train on the first stop. The majority of Jews were faced with exile and tragic consequences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chaim Kuritsky\u2019s memories depict suffered horrors, the loss of his mother, the feelings for his girlfriend. He was confronted with death many times and saw a cruel behavior and brutality of Germans. All these experiences and images encouraged the need to capture everyday life in order to tell this brutality and events during the war to future generations. The book contains many surnames and exact dates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The publishing of the book was partially financed by the Good Will Foundation.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Tamara Jefremova, a friend of Kuritsky family, publicist and translator, shares her impressions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/2.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2116\" src=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/2-216x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"300\" data-id=\"2116\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/2-216x300.jpg 216w, https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/2.jpg 536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 216px) 100vw, 216px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The author of the book, Chaim Kuritsky, was happy to learn that residents of his hometown will get acquainted with his book, but, unfortunately, he didn\u2019t make it to see the book. The author died in August, 2017.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/3.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2117\" src=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/3-237x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"237\" height=\"300\" data-id=\"2117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/3-237x300.jpg 237w, https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/3-808x1024.jpg 808w, https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/3.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 237px) 100vw, 237px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ch. Kuritsky depicted the route he walked during the war in the scheme.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/4.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2118\" src=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/4-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" data-id=\"2118\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/4-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/4-1024x663.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/4.jpg 1471w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jewish Ghetto was established in Daugavpils fortress, the place where Chaimas spent the majority of the war time. This fortress is the only example of such buildings of 19th century in Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/5.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2119\" src=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/5-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" data-id=\"2119\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/5-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/5.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While preparing the translation, Josifas Ro\u010dko, Latvian scholar and the employee of the only synagogue remained in Daugavpils, helped a lot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/6.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2120\" src=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/6-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" data-id=\"2120\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/6-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/6.jpg 681w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Together in one photo \u2013 guests and locals from Utena.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/7.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2121\" src=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/7-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" data-id=\"2121\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/7-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/7.jpg 822w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ch. Kurickas has died, but his three daughters visited editorial office of newspaper \u201cUtenos \u017einios\u201d in Utena. Some parts of the book were printed here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/8.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2122\" src=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/8-300x208.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" data-id=\"2122\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/8-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gvf.lt\/en\/files\/2021\/01\/8.jpg 760w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>During the presentation of the book several people have made their speeches \u2013 guide-ethnographer Chaimas Bergmanas, employee of Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History Danut\u0117 Sel\u010dinskaja, teacher-ethnographer, a friend of Ch.
