“Some books follow the footsteps of their protagonists. Thus, Shimon Lev “From Lithuania to Santiniketan: Schlomith Flaum & Rabindranath Tagore” arrived from Vilnius in New Delhi this early morning, repeating the transcontinental journey of the book’s main character, a Lithuania-born Jewish-Lithuanian traveler, Ms. Schlomith Flaum.” – reported Embassy of Lithuania in India.
Schlomith Flaum was born in Kaunas in 1893 and reached India in 1922. She spent a few years in Santiniketan, near Calcutta, working together with the world-famous poet, Rabindranath Tagore. Their correspondence, which continued until 1940s, as well as Flaum’s very intimate diaries, are presented in the book which will be released in New Delhi on 19 March and Kolkata on 20 March. The Geros valios fondas / Good Will Foundation, a Lithuania-based trust caring about the preservation of the Jewish-Lithuanian heritage worldwide, co-sponsored the publication under the UAB “Makas” project No. GVF-242/2017(2)PR.
