This book is a monograph by Ruth Reches, based on her dissertation ” Holocaust Survivors’ Experience of Identity ” (Psychology, S 006).

The Holocaust had long-term consequences for identity: the Holocaust formed a perception of oneself as a “survivor” who acquired different values in the context of Lithuanian and Israeli societies; the survivors perceive themselves as valuing life, understanding the temporality of material values; they perceive themselves as accepting God or as denying its existence. Survivors reveal their dual relationship to the Holocaust: they perceive themselves as having acquired strength, life experience, discovering meaning in the Holocaust, or as having lost the continuity of life, finding no meaning in traumatic experiences.
