Louis Lewandowski – a composer and reformer of Jewish sacred music. His style amalgamated traditional Hebrew liturgical melodies with more modern elements of music language and harmony. Lewandowski’s masterful works, characterized by simplicity and deeply religious contemplation, were a new word in the Jewish sacred music of the time.
In 2021, to mark Lewandowski’s 200th birth anniversary, the Pestalozzistrasse Synagogue in Berlin carries on an international project Integral Lewandowski dedicated to perpetuation and worldwide promulgation of the composer’s work. As a tribute to this prominent figure of Jewish culture, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Concert Hall hosts the concert featuring Lewandowski’s songs dubbed the masterpieces, which remain popular to this day. They are akin musical prayers that provide comfort and peace. Performers: Isidoro Abramowicz, cantor of the Pestalozzistrasse Synagogue in Berlin, Brevis Choir, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, conductor Juozas Mantas Jauniškis.
