In 2021, on the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Holocaust, the young composer Jievaras Jasinskis, in collaboration with Tadas Daujotas, the author of the idea playing ancient Hebrew instruments – shofars, co-created an unprecedented musical project “The Symphony from North Jerusalem”. The premiere of the work took place on September 23, to commemorate the day of the genocide of Lithuanian Jews, in the courtyard of the Presidency of the Republic of Lithuania.
In the hour-long album of the 15-part music album “The Symphony from North Jerusalem” created by the project Shofar United, classical music intertwines with Lithuanian and Hebrew folklore motifs, Middle Eastern melodies and jazz elements. The album was recorded by world-renowned sound director Vilius Keras, performed by the Vilnius City Municipality’s St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra (chief conductor and artistic director Modestas Barkauskas) and 14 invited classical, jazz and folklore musicians from Lithuania and Israel.
Project was partially financed by the Good Will Foundation.
