On May 25, 2022, the Good Will Foundation and the Municipality of Vilnius signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will preserve and protect this historic town square and make it again the center of active Jewish communal life in the city. According to this agreement the Good Will Foundation will build a new community center to serve the needs of the Jews of Vilnius and Lithuania. The new facilities will replace the current cramped and outdated community building at Pylimo 4.
In the first planning stage the Good Will Foundation will determine the broad social and communal needs of the community that the new center should address. It will then seek design and construction proposals that can meet these requirements while also conveying the memory of the original Great Synagogue and respecting the scale and historic nature of the neighborhood.
In the coming weeks, the Good Will Foundation will reach out to members of the Jewish Community and to the public to offer their thoughts and suggestions on what the new Jewish Community Center should include and provide in the way of facilities and services.
