We are sad to announced that Dr. Rabbi Richard Freund (1955-2022) has passed away. The Good Will Foundation expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
Professor, Doctor of Philosophy in Judaism, Master of Talmud and Rabbinics at the Jewish Theological Seminary, lecturer in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at Queens College, Dr. Rabbi Richard Freund taught Jewish history and religion, biblical archaeology, Hebrew language and literature, Holocaust archaeology. Dr. Rabbi Richard Freund was a famous archaeologist, developer of non-invasive archaeology, who carried out many non-invasive archaeological investigations of the territory of the Great Synagogue of Vilnius, identified the burial place of the family of the murdered young poet Matilda Olkinaitė, the underwater relief of the town of Old Rumsiskes, identified the tunnel line through which a dozen prisoners escaped from Paneriai, and many other works. Richard Freund repeatedly presented his methods and research results at the Vilnius Jewish Public Library.
