At the Vytautas Mikalauskas Arts Gymnasium in Panevėžys, on January 26, 2022, the students commemorated the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Gennady Kofman, the chairman of the Jewish community in Panevėžys, was also invited to the event, remembering the event organized by teachers and students with joy and pain.
During the event, the students sang Juozas Pakalnis’ prelude “RAUDA”, prepared and presented a report on the Holocaust, performed an etude based on Etty Hillesum’s letter book. Based on Ichoko Mero’s work “Lygiosios trunka akimirką”, students prepared an exhibition of drawings and presented it in honor of the Lithuanian Jewish writer Icchokas Meras, one of the first to speak publicly about the Holocaust in the Soviet Union. His novel “Lygiosios trunka akimirką” is the first work in Lithuanian literature that reveals the tragedy of the Jewish nation.
