On August 1-24, a table tennis camp was held in Vilnius under the implemented project “The Development of Table Tennis in Lithuanian Jewish Community”.
27 young athletes participated in the camp, most of them students of Š. Aleichem ORT gymnasium and Lithuanian Jewish Community members. The 3-week long camp was conducted by coaches Khen and Neta Alon and one of the strongest table tennis players in the country, Šimonas Lukša.
The camp functioned as a preparation for the upcoming competition season, in which teams made up of young Lithuanian Jewish Community athletes will compete both in the Lithuanian men’s and women’s league, as well as in the Lithuanian junior championships and other tournaments.
One of the most distinguished Lithuanian Jewish Community athletes at the camp was Maja Bliumin, who during the camp was preparing for the European Youth Championship in Strasbourg. According to the overall results of the Lithuanian tournaments, Maja ranks second in her age group, and is currently traveling to France to participate in the European Championship with the Lithuanian national team, her father Arkadij Bliumin and coach Neta Alon.
The camp revealed the talent of the young athletes. Arnas Federas and Uosis Račinskas (10th place in the Lithuanian ranking), both students of Š. Aleichem ORT gymnasium, have great potential in table tennis. Arnas, being the Lithuanian karate champion in his age group, is exceptionally capable of achieving heights in two different sports.
The new table tennis training season will start on September 1. Classes will be held at:
Š. Aleichem table tennis center 2 times/week (the schedule will be published soon)
S. Daukantas table tennis center (Naugarduko St. 7) on working days 17:00-19:00
