On March 24, after six years of reconstruction, the public library of the Kupiškis district municipality was solemnly opened in the building of former Kupiškis Great Synagogue.
The event was attended by Dainius Bardauskas, Mayor of Kupiškis District Municipality, Jurgita Trifeldienė, Head of Culture, Education and Sports Department of Kupiškis District Municipality, Simonas Kairys, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, Jonas Jarutis, Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Faina Kukliansky, Chairman of the Lithuanian Jewish (Litvak) Community, Genadijus Kofmanas, Chairman of the Jewish Community of Panevėžys, Hadas Wittenberg Silverstein, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel in Lithuania, Aušra Jonušytė, a historian of Kupiškis Museum of Ethnography, Algirdas Venckus, Director of the Public Library of the Kupiškis District Municipality, Arvydas Markevičius, General Manager of UAB “Infes”, Arkadijus Vinokūras, theater and movement art actor – pedagogue, journalist and writer, others. Books brought from the Vilnius Lithuanian Jewish (Litvak) community were handed over to the library. An ensemble “Rakija Klezmer Orkestar” and violinist Jakaterina Radionova performed during the event.
