The Archaeological Research in the Site of the Great Synagogue Will Continue This Summer

The Great Synagogue and Shulhoyf research and excavation project will be entering its fifth year this summer, with a greatly enhanced excavation at the site thanks to the continued financial contribution provided by the Good Will Foundation. The archaeological research this season will concentrate on completing the excavation of the Bimah we recovered in 2018; expanded exposure of the Aron Kodesh uncovered in; completing the excavation of the bathhouse and more.

As always the work will be a joint effort of scholars and archaeologists from Lithuania, Israel, America and Canada. The work in the field, in Zydu gatve in Vilnius will take place from the 1st to the 19th July and the interests, visits and especially participation as volunteers are very welcome for some, or even all, of the excavation.
