Chaimas Kurickis was born in 1921 in Utena. In June 1941 German army was approaching and Chaimas Kurickis and his mother retreated to the East, but in Daugavpils, Latvia, they were arrested, separated and imprisoned – his mother put in the ghetto and he – in prison. The book’s author was imprisoned also in the ghetto and was sent to several concentration camps, where he fought for survival until May 5, 1945 when he was freed in Germany. His memories and experiences Chaimas Kurickis has put together in this book together with few poems.
