The commemoration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day was symbolically started by the Lithuanian Jewish (Litvak) community with a meaningful presentation of two new books that talk about the relations between Jews and Lithuanians during various historical periods.

Two books were presented at the premises of the Lithuanian Jewish (Litvak) Community: “The Case of Texts: Lithuanian anti-Semitic Discourse from the second half of the 19th century to 1940” by Ph.D. of VMU Linas Venclauskas, and “Jews in Lithuanian Literature” by a culturist, essayist, publicist Vytautas Toleikis.

Both books were partially financed by the Good Will Foundation.

At the beginning of the event, a moment of silence was taken in honor of the victims of the Holocaust.

A special mood was created by Dalia Dėdinskaitė, one of the brightest violinists of her generation in the Baltic States, a graduate of the Vienna University of Music and Fine Arts, winner of international competitions, and by one of the brightest Lithuanian pianists Darius Mažintas, a winner of numerous international competitions. The musicians performed a very symbolic program – “Hebrew Melody” by Joseph Achron, a litvak, violinist and composer, and “Kol Nidrei” by Max Bruch. It is a ritual piece that sensitively paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust.
