On May 19, 2023, the Panevezys Jewish community was visited by Baruh Yorex, a distinguished guest from the city of Kiryat Ono in Israel, who has Litvak roots. His Jurowetski grandparents were from Poland. The guest is a high-ranking reserve officer of the Israeli army, has been interested in sports since he was young, and his family has been rooting for the Israeli basketball club Tel Aviv Maccabi, where he and his three sons have played. During the conversation, it became clear that Baruh Yorex is very interested in the Jewish heritage in Lithuania. Examining the photo exhibition and documents collected in the archives of the Jewish community of Panevezys, he was impressed by the fact that each city had its own Maccabi society and sports teams, as well as tennis, football, gymnastics, basketball and other sports teams. The guest was happy that today the sports club Maccabi is active in Lithuania and participates in international sports events. The guest, who viewed the exhibition of the archive of the Jewish community of Panevezys, visited the Jewish heritage objects in the city.
