Guests continue to visit the Panevėžys Jewish community

Guests from Europe, Israel, South Africa, Canada and the USA come to the Jewish community of Panevėžys in order to search information about their great-grandparents.

In August, two young families with their children visited the community.

Daniel Benjamin and Dana Missulawin and their sons live in Tel Aviv. Their great-grandfather was a salesman, in 1920 he lived in Panevėžys, on Smėlynė street. And grandfather Mouša Benjaminovič lived at 21 Molainiu St., Panevėžys, then on Kranto Street. The guests were very grateful for the information about their grandparents and great-grandparents. With great interest he looked at the photos kept in the community’s archive. After that, they visited the historical places of the city related to the Jews of Panevėžys and their life.

Another family came from Jerusalem: Jerusalem University professor Akye Edrei and his wife Chana Edrei, who wanted to get to know the history of the Jews in Panevėžys before World War II. They were also looking for information about their great-grandparents. The guests were interested in the activities of the community and the historical material collected by the community about the Jews who lived in Panevėžys. From the headquarters of the city’s Jewish community, the guests went to get to know the historical places of the Jewish heritage of Panevėžys. The tour was guided by G. Kofman, the chair of the community, who not only showed the historical places of Jewish heritage, but also told about the present day and history of the city of Panevėžys. The guests were very satisfied with the excellent educational tour, and left a note in the guest book of the community.
