On 28 September at 6 pm the Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library kindly invites you to a lecture by Professor Leonidas Melnikas “Forgotten Names. Litvaks for Music”. The event will take place at the Vilnius Jewish Public Library (24 Gedimino Ave., entrance from the courtyard of the Small Theatre of Vilnius).
Lithuanian academic music of the 19th and early 20th centuries is not well known, and the artists and their achievements of that time are almost forgotten. In this lecture, musicologist Leonidas Melnikas invites you to return to those times and revive the creative achievements of Litvaks.
Leonidas Melnikas is a musicologist, pianist, organist, habilitated doctor, professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, author of books on Litvak musicians, conductor and teacher Saulius Sondeckis, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s relations with Lithuanian nobility, etc.
