Every year on 27 January, the world commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this occasion, on January 26th at 11:00 a.m., the Jewish Community of Palanga unveils a commemorative plaque testifying the history of the Jewish Community of Palanga. This time, the plaque is dedicated to Lazaris Gutman (1875-1957), a resident of Palanga, one of the most famous representatives of the Jewish academic intelligentsia, a Professor and Head of the Department of Nervous and Mental Diseases of Kaunas University. The memorial plaque will be unveiled on the Gutman family house at 25 S. Daukanto street, Palanga.

The memorial plaque marking the pages of the history of the Jewish community of Palanga is the second, but not the last – the initiative to commemorate other surviving buildings in Palanga which associated with the life, activity, culture, and the indescribably tragic events of these citizens who shaped the future of Palanga city. Last year, the first memorial plaque was unveiled marking the site of the Great and the Minor Synagogues (1 Senojo turgaus st.). The production and installation of the plaque is funded by the Good Will Foundation.
